About the Author - Sable Jak

Like every other writer you've ever met, I've wanted to be a writer from childhood. You'll not hear more about that, it is what it is and I have no stories with which to regale you.

One small difference, I've always wanted to write for the spoken word so I started (once I hit adulthood) writing plays (had some produced locally with one off-off Broadway reading) switched to film (bombed at that, same with TV) and took up my real love, audio drama.

Looking back on my life I see that, although I held down a lot (really a LOT) of other jobs, I've been, throughout my adult life, in the entertainment business, from acting to writer, props to costume and makeup design. None of it on a grand scale, but a satisfactory one.

I'm the proudest of two things:

1.     12 years spent with Jim French Productions, a professional SAG-AFTRA house in multiple capacities (we were a company of three, we all wore several hats) I was both bookkeeper and staff writer, mostly writing for the still popular The Adventures of Harry Nile.

2.     The several awards I won at the Moondance International Film Festival for my audio writing. (see covers below)

After the death of one of my favorite bosses, Jim French, and the transitioning of the company into the capable hands of Harry Nile himself, i.e. Larry Albert, and Sherlock himself, i.e. John Patrick Lowrie, I decided to transfer from spoken word writing to prose.

It hasn't been easy. I'm used to relying on sound effects, music, and the actor's voice to convey a full story. Suddenly having to write descriptions not only of place, but of action, has been an education and a lesson in frustration.

Also, I suck at grammar.

But, switching over gave me the chance to write what I like to read the most and watch the most, Wuxia stories from China. Not the westerner's idea of what "Kung Fu" is but the real Wuxia. However, being raised Western and not steeped in Chinese culture (turns out I am, on a very small DNA scale, part Chinese) all I can do it study and call my story "Wuxia-inspired."

Anyway, that's me, that's all I have to say. Below are some pretty covers for the audio dramas I wrote.
